Juneteenth!
June 19, 2021, will go down in the books as the first year Juneteenth was recognized as a national holiday. Juneteenth was celebrated by many groups in Wilmington, NC with events all across town. One of those events was a joyous dance class at Portia Hines Park that brought together men, women, and children to learn the Jerusalema dance under the direction of Rebecca Trammel, Director of Community Conversations and Champions for Compassion.
Those of you who have learned the dance may wonder what’s next? We encourage you to teach others, to rally a team from your workplace, school, place of worship, or organization, and to sign up to come and dance on August 28th at the anniversary celebration in Wallace Park. If your business or organization is interested in sponsoring the Wilmington Jerusalema Challenge, we would love to hear from you! You can register yourself or your team through our site.
